Our ears can do more than just listen!
Auriculotherapy is a non-invasive acupressure technique that has been used by the Chinese for thousands of years. As one of the healthiest regions of the world, East Asian Medicine has a lot to offer for those suffering from:
- Hormone imbalances
- Low energy
What is Auriculotherapy?
Auriculotherapy is a branch of Chinese Medicine that is similar to Acupuncture. The Chinese believe that a type of energy called “Qi” (pronounced ‘chee’) flows through our bodies. Mental and physical conditions ranging from stress, to allergies, to infertility can block the flow of Qi. This produces predictable patterns of symptoms at different locations of our bodies, known as “acupuncture points.”
What is the Benefit of Auriculotherapy?
Like acupuncture, research has shown that auriculotherapy can provide relief from anxiety, stress, gastrointestinal discomfort, and more! The best part is that Chinese medicine can identify the key imbalances that underlie problems, and restore the body before they develop, or symptoms worsen.
Does Auriculotherapy Use Needles?
Nope! Instead of acupuncture needles, a small magnetic bead called an “ear seed” is applied to the ear at underneath a small bandage. When the bead is pressed down against the skin, the combination of pressure and electromagnetic induction brings the body back into balance. The beads can stay in place for up to a week at a time, administering the dose of acupuncture slowly over time.
How often do I need a treatment?
You will start to feel a difference after your first treatment, but in order to heal and notice lasting results, the ear seeds will need to be reapplied weekly for about 3 weeks. Follow-up wellness appointments will be monthly to maintain balance and prevent the problem from coming back. Prevention is the best medicine!
Ear seeds stay in place through all your normal activities, and fall off after about 5 days. Shower, wear hats, brush your hair, and do everything else you normally do! They do not cause discomfort, though some people feel tenderness (similar to pulling on an earring.) If you are uncomfortable, remove the ear seeds, and we will adjust the application at your next appointment, or feel free to email Alexandra with questions at email@example.com
